Black Fibre in New Zealand Wool
For wool that is suited for bedding, it is the visual and handle characteristics that come from certain sheep breeds that provide bulk and resilience that comes from the very curly fibres. This is where the value lies.
Regardless of the colour of the wool and the black fibre that is present due to the breed from which this wool comes from, and that the wool is not being dyed or being spun, then the true value is solely in the handle and bulkiness. Once the wool is processed into bat form, it is then covered up by the outer layer never to be seen again. However it still provides all the natural attributes that come from being a natural fibre. It is breathable, it absorbs moisture without feeling damp, it provides the body with a built in thermostat, it absorbs toxic gases and stores them and of course it is 100% biodegradable and recyclable.
The differences of value and that sometimes a visual appearance doesn’t devalue the raw wool or the final product.
